Kafanov: Safonov is a Worthy Successor of the Soviet Goalkeeping School

Vitaliy Kafanov, the goalkeeper coach for the Russian national team, shared his thoughts on Matvey Safonov's successful performance in the Intercontinental Cup final. The PSG goalkeeper saved four shots during the penalty shootout against Brazil's Flamengo team.

Kafanov described the event as symbolic, recalling that it was on the same day Lev Yashin was awarded the Ballon d’Or. The coach emphasized that Safonov is a worthy successor of the Soviet and Russian school of goalkeepers.

This season, the 26-year-old goalkeeper has appeared in four matches for his club, keeping two clean sheets.

The Transfermarkt portal estimates Safonov’s market value at €15 million.
