Grishin Says Injury Halted Safonov's New Role at PSG

According to former CSKA midfielder Aleksandr Grishin, Matvey Safonov could have become the primary goalkeeper for PSG in their upcoming matches if it weren't for his injury. Earlier, doctors identified fractures in the Russian footballer's left hand metacarpal bones following the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final.

"Had it not been for the injury, Safonov would have easily become PSG's first-choice goalkeeper by now," Grishin said during a broadcast on "Match TV." The expert also noted that the French press is now actively promoting Luc Chevalier, who lost his spot in the starting lineup to Safonov during the last four matches.

Grishin called the fractures an unfortunate turn of events. Safonov had played through the injury during the match against Flamengo, completing the penalty shootout and saving four consecutive shots.
