Former midfielder of the Russian national team, known for his career with "Manchester United," Andrey Kanchelskis, has addressed the country’s leadership. He proposed awarding Russian football players playing for European clubs with state honors.
According to Kanchelskis, these players should be encouraged as they represent Russia abroad. "If an award is given, it should be extended to everyone, even those who played a long time ago," RB Sport quotes him as saying.
One of the most recent notable achievements by Russian football players was Matvey Safonov’s victory in the Intercontinental Cup final against PSG. The goalkeeper saved four penalty kicks during the post-match penalty shootout.
