Kafanov Reveals Details of Safonov's Injury

Vitaliy Kafanov, the goalkeeper coach for the Russian national team, provided information regarding the injury sustained by PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov. Earlier reports indicated that Safonov had broken his hand during the Intercontinental Cup final against Flamengo (1:1, 2:1 in the penalty shootout).

In the penalty shootout, Safonov saved four shots, significantly contributing to his team's victory. According to Kafanov, he contacted Matvey, and subsequent examinations confirmed the fracture.

The coach stated that a small bone fragment in the hand became detached during the third penalty episode in the shootout. Despite this, Safonov went on to save two more penalties.
