Kerzhakov Praises Safonov's Heroics in the Final

Former Zenit St. Petersburg forward Aleksandr Kerzhakov shared his thoughts on PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov's performance in the final match against Flamengo. Kerzhakov described the events on the field as almost unbelievable.

He highlighted that Safonov saved four consecutive penalty kicks. Additionally, the former footballer suggested that during the match and the penalty shootout, the goalkeeper might not have fully realized the severity of his injury due to high adrenaline and strong emotions.

"When it comes to a fracture specifically, Safonov probably didn’t even feel it much during the game and the penalty shootout. That’s because he was under immense adrenaline and euphoria.

Saving four penalties in a row is, of course, a phenomenal achievement," Kerzhakov was quoted as saying by the publication "Championat." After the final, it was revealed that Safonov would be sidelined for the rest of the year due to his injury.
