Carlsen is at the top again: he won his sixth world rapid crown

The 2025 World Rapid Chess Championship was full of unforgettable dramas and high-level competitions for chess fans. The main hero of the competition was once again Magnus Carlsen. The Norwegian grandmaster proved his absolute superiority in rapid chess with his will, experience, and composure.

During the tournament, not everything went smoothly for Carlsen. He suffered a defeat to Vladislav Artemyev, and this result could have demoralized many athletes. But for Magnus, this was only a signal. After this defeat, he pulled himself together and won five games in a row, leaving no chance for his opponents.

Having drawn with Anish Giri in the last round, Carlsen finished the competition in first place overall. As a result, he won the rapid world championship title for the sixth time. This indicator further strengthened him as one of the most stable and strong champions in the history of modern chess.

Rapid competitions among women were also extremely intense. The main battle for the championship took place between Aleksandra Goryachkina, Hampi Koneru, and Zhu Jiner. According to the results of the main distance, these three chess players scored the same points and shared first place.

In accordance with the competition regulations, the fate of the championship was decided in a tie-break. In the additional games, Alexandra Goryachkina and Zhu Jininer faced each other. In the first game of the tie-break, Goryachkina secured a convincing victory, and the second match ended in a draw. Thus, Alexandra earned the high title of World Rapid Champion.

And the chess festival doesn't end there. The World Blitz Championship will be held on December 29-30. Now all attention is focused on even faster, error-free blitz matches. Whether Carlsen will be able to continue his winning streak or new champions will emerge - we'll find out in the coming days.
