For Nathan Aké, who has struggled to secure a regular starting spot at Manchester City, the 2026 World Cup is a crucial issue. To play at the tournament, the defender needs consistent minutes. That is why the 30-year-old Dutch centre-back is seriously considering changing clubs in January.
So far, Barcelona have been mentioned as the main contender for Aké. It was reported that the Catalans plan to bring him in to fill the gap that appeared after centre-back Andreas Christensen suffered a serious injury.
However, according to Caught Offside, the intrigue around this transfer is growing: the number of Premier League suitors for Aké has increased. In particular, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Fulham and West Ham could try to prevent the defender from moving to Catalonia.
Most interestingly, unlike Barcelona, the English clubs are proposing a permanent transfer for Aké. City are said to be ready to let the 30-year-old go for around €30–35 million. Due to financial restrictions, a full purchase could be difficult for Barcelona.
For the record, Aké has played for Manchester City since the summer of 2020. This season he has featured in 13 matches across all competitions, but has yet to register any goal contributions.
His contract with the club runs until the summer of 2027. According to Transfermarkt, Aké’s market value is estimated at around €18 million.
