Current UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria has denied reports from El Mundo that her ex-husband had been summoned to court in Spain on charges of domestic violence. He explained his position by stating that he is aware of the information disseminated about him by the media through social networks with inaccurate and incorrect headlines.
Topuriya stated that he was not summoned to court and was not obligated to give any testimony in such cases. According to him, documents related to family and administrative matters in Spain, but in the case of personal and legal investigations, are unfounded and news headlines are distorted.
"I oppose misinformation disseminated in this way, and always, if necessary, I will respond to media inquiries in my own way," he said. Topuria also emphasized that, if informed, the media should rely on facts and distribute materials based on them.
"The summons only concerns - I haven't seen it for four months - the family and administrative matter related to my daughter's departure from Spain," she said.
According to him, this case was initiated during the divorce proceedings due to disagreements between financial claims and therefore relates to legal relations related to family matters. Topuria, hoping to regain his daughter and son, said that the truth would soon find its place and called for supporting only justice and truth in this matter.
"It all started a few weeks after our divorce. "After I refused to accept some absolutely unfounded financial demands, a statement accusing me of violence was filed - I was previously intimidated with this, and now this is being considered in court," Topuria said.
Topuria also says: "I will continue to believe in God and justice. When the truth expresses everything, I believe that I will get my children back. Please, ensure that the mass media are based on real facts and are accurate and truthful in their reporting."
Topuria's statements generated considerable interest and discussion among the media and her fans.
