Africa Cup: Cameroon beat South Africa to reach the quarter-finals

The Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 is heating up: Cameroon beat South Africa 2–1 to become the fourth team to reach the quarter-finals. Cameroon started under pressure, but gradually took control and scored at the crucial moments.

The scoring opened in the 34th minute with a precise strike by Junior Chamadyu. Early in the second half, in the 47th minute, Kristian Kofane doubled the lead. South Africa revived the drama late on with an 88th-minute goal by Evidence Makgopa, but Cameroon withstood the final pressure and held on for the win.

Next, the “Lions” will face tournament hosts Morocco in the quarter-finals. Morocco also advanced after beating Tanzania 1–0 in the round of 16. In short, there’s no “easy mode” for Cameroon now — the next match will be a full stress test.
