Xabi Alonso responds to Simeone: respect has limits...

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso commented on Atletico boss Diego Simeone’s behavior after controversial moments in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final. He said emotions are natural in football, but respect also has its own “red line.”

In an interview with As, Alonso said he usually treats opposing players with respect and tries not to get into arguments with them. However, he did not hide that he disliked Simeone’s remarks about Vinicius Junior.

“This is not the best example of sportsmanship. You have to respect your opponent. What happens on the football pitch also has its limits,” Xabi Alonso said.

As a reminder, during the match Diego Simeone got into an argument with Vinicius Junior. Reports said the Atletico coach told the Brazilian that Real president Florentino Perez would sell him. The episode further heated up the on-field rivalry and drew fans’ attention.

Still, the dispute was settled on the pitch: Los Blancos beat Los Colchoneros 2–1 to reach the Spanish Super Cup final. In other words, no matter how much talk followed, the scoreboard had the final word.

In short, Alonso’s stance is clear: there are wins and losses, but top-level football also demands top-level culture. Fans are now waiting for something else — how will Real respond in the final? The answer on the pitch is always the toughest and most convincing.
