Spanish Cup quarterfinal: Barcelona to face Real’s conqueror

The draw for the Spanish Cup quarterfinal stage has been held, and the last-eight pairings are now official. From this round on, every tie is “all or nothing”: one night, one result, and no room for mistakes.
The most intriguing, fan-grabbing outcome of the draw is the opponent of reigning champions Barcelona. The Catalans will take on Albacete, the surprise package that knocked Real out of the tournament, for a place in the semifinals. In other words, Barça have not drawn an easy rival, but a team that “isn’t afraid of giants.”
The quarterfinal pairings are as follows:
- Albacete — Barcelona
- Alaves — Real Sociedad
- Valencia — Athletic
- Betis — Atletico Madrid
According to the tournament schedule, the quarterfinal matches will be played on February 3–5. That means the Spanish Cup will truly heat up in the first week of February: on one side, title ambitions; on the other, teams hungry for an upset.
In short, Barcelona’s task at this stage is simple: rely on performance, not reputation. Albacete have already shown they don’t talk to the big clubs with “respect,” but with results.
