Football legend Wayne Rooney has made a controversial but quite frank comment about the current Liverpool manager Arne Slott. Rooney said that Slott is a good person, a cultured professional, but one of the most important things in managing a big club is that he lacks the "aura", that is, the pressure and influence of leadership.
Rooney expressed these thoughts on the program The Overlap Fan Debate. There he said about Slott: "I've met him a few times, he's a friendly person. But for Liverpool he doesn't give off enough aura. Maybe because Jurgen Klopp was at the club before, he's been treated differently, but I just don't feel it."
That is, Rooney's point is that in a big club, not only tactics, but also character should be the "loud voice". Especially in a team like Liverpool - the stands, history, pressure, demands... here the coach himself must become a "figure on the field". Rooney did not hide the fact that he does not see this effect in Slot so far.
He also emphasized one more point: if the team does not enter the top five in the Premier League at the end of the season, Slot's position may be in danger. Rooney's logic is simple: if results are delayed in a big club, time and "patience" quickly run out.
At the same time, the Liverpool management is in no hurry to dismiss Slot. The reason is clear: a suitable and reliable alternative has not been found. That is, if there is no "ready-made option at hand", the club does not want to make a sudden decision.
Moreover, Slot himself does not romanticize the situation: he admits that the team does not yet fully meet Liverpool's standards. This season has not been easy for him - difficult times, pressure, a new environment, new demands ... In short, it has not been a "cotton" start.
The main question for fans is: will Slot find himself under this pressure or, as Rooney said, will the lack of "aura" ultimately affect the result? After all, every game at Liverpool is a test - and the stands will decide this test.
