According to Capello, the main problem is the slow pace of the Italian championship. He attributed Inter's two-legged defeat to Budø-Glimt (1-3 and 1-2, aggregate score 2-5) to this very factor.
- In Italian football, they play very slowly - nothing can be done about it. "Our teams can only play slowly when they play against opponents who run a lot and have high pressing," said Capello.
He noted that when Serie A clubs try to dramatically increase the tempo, another problem arises: the lack of technical quality corresponding to that speed and the ability to play in such a rhythm. Therefore, when teams move at dangerous speeds, errors increase.
When you want to increase speed or intensity, you lack quality or the habit of playing this way. As a result, you make mistakes," the Italian expert added.
Capello criticized not only the clubs but also the overall approach in the domestic league. He said that refereeing style and the culture of game management are distancing players from aggressive, hard-pressed football.
- We are not used to aggressive play. Because if you try to play like that in Serie A, they'll stop you immediately. As a result, the results are so deplorable. We play slowly, so everyone saw how difficult it was for Inter to create a dangerous situation," Capello said.
In short, Fabio Capello's words raise one painful question: isn't Serie A lagging behind in terms of its pace, aggressiveness, and adaptation to modern intensive football? Inter's defeat to the Norwegian club made this question even louder.
