In the 28th round of the English Premier League, Manchester United secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace at home. This result allowed the Mancunians to climb to third place with 51 points. Although United conceded an early goal in the match, they changed the situation in the second half.
After the match, head coach Michael Carrick did not hide his satisfaction with the victory. According to him, the team's reaction after the slow start was the most encouraging aspect. Carrick also acknowledged Crystal Palace, noting that the opponent started the match very quickly and very actively. United struggled in the first few minutes but were able to return to the game later.
Indeed, Palace opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a goal from Maxence Lacroix. However, the decisive moment in the second half was precisely this player: he committed a foul against Mateus Cunha, "caused" a penalty, and was sent off with a red card. Carrick also said that a penalty and a suspension were the turning points of the match.
Bruno Fernandes took the lead once again. He scored the equalizer with a penalty in the 57th minute, followed by an assist for Benjamin Sheshko's winning goal. Carrick praised Fernandes as a player who takes responsibility and doesn't back down in decisive moments. Despite Dean Henderson being a strong goalkeeper to save penalties, Bruno dominated the match.
Kerrick also spoke warmly about Sheshko. According to him, bringing the Slovenian forward into the starting lineup wasn't a risk, as the player is in good form and has been significantly impacting the team's performance in recent weeks. With this goal, Sheshko recorded his name on the scoreboard for the third consecutive game as well, scoring seven goals in the last eight matches.
As for rising to third place in the table, although Kerrick called it a pleasant situation, he indicated that it shouldn't be overly meaningful for now. In his opinion, the most important thing is that the team continues to grow and is able to respond even after an early conceded goal. This very spirit and character are the main factors strengthening United's current move.
In short, Carrick valued this victory not just as three points, but as another proof of the team's character and inner conviction. Manchester United is currently climbing the table, but the manager's perspective is simple: it's not a celebration yet, they still need to work.
