In the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16, Real Madrid defeated Manchester City 3-0 at home. The match, held in Madrid, attracted the attention of fans not only with a large score but also with some interesting tactical decisions on the field.
Following the match, Real Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa commented on winger Vinicius Junior's failure to score from a penalty. As a reminder, the Brazilian player had a chance from the 11-meter mark in the second half but missed the opportunity.
According to Arbeloa, he was particularly pleased with the reaction of the fans at the stadium. This is because the stands at the Santiago Bernabeu continued to support Vinicius even after his miss.

Another important tactical episode was observed in this match. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola made an unexpected decision to switch to the right wing to stop Vinicius Junior. The Spanish specialist put Uzbek defender Abdukodir Khusanov in the same position.
Guardiola explained this choice by Khusanov's physical fitness, speed, and aggressive defensive style. In his opinion, the Uzbek footballer was considered one of the most suitable options in the fight against Vinicius.
Interestingly, despite City's defeat, Abdukodir Khusanov was noted as one of the best players among the team's defenders. Experts from various analytical and statistical centers also rated his actions higher than his teammates.
This is not the first clash between Vinicius and Khusanov. Last season, in a match held in Madrid, the Uzbek defender successfully played against the Brazilian star, preventing him from scoring a goal.
This time, Vinicius had a chance to score, but missed a penalty. Nevertheless, the Madrid side secured a convincing 3-0 victory thanks to Federico Valverde's first career hat-trick.
As a result, Vinicius Junior again left the field without scoring a goal. However, this did not significantly affect his overall statistics. This season, the Brazilian star has made 40 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists.
