Senegal rejected CAF's AFCON decision

Senegal has called for an independent international investigation after the Confederation of African Football stripped the country of its Africa Cup of Nations title over alleged corruption. The move has triggered a sharp reaction from officials in Dakar, who say the decision damages confidence in African football governance. Reports Goal.com.
Government spokesperson Marie Rose Khady Fatou Faye said the ruling was both unlawful and unfair. She argued that overturning the result of a completed final, played under official rules, seriously weakens CAF’s credibility. Senegal is now seeking a closer look at possible wrongdoing within CAF’s governing bodies.

The controversy centers on the final played on January 18, when Senegal briefly left the field after a penalty was awarded to Morocco. According to reports, the team later returned after a long stoppage, encouraged by captain Sadio Mané. Senegal then secured a 1-0 victory with a stoppage-time goal.
CAF announced on Tuesday that Senegal would lose the title, with Morocco set to be recognized as continental champion instead. In response, the Senegalese Football Federation said it would take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne as soon as possible, setting up a major legal battle over one of African football’s most disputed finals.
