Real Madrid legend José Santamaría has passed away

José Santamaría, a former player of the famous Real Madrid club, has passed away at the age of 96. This was announced by the club's official press service.
The 'Royal Club' expressed deep condolences to the memory of the deceased footballer and recognized him as one of the true legends of world football. According to the club's statement, Santamaría was a key member of the historic team that won the European Champion Clubs' Cup several times.
“Our club expresses its condolences. Santamaría was one of the legends of Real and world football. He was a member of the team that won the European Champion Clubs' Cup multiple times,” the official statement reads.
During his career at Real Madrid, he won the Spanish league six times and triumphed in the European Champion Clubs' Cup four times.
José Santamaría was born in Uruguay and played for Nacional from 1948 to 1957. He then moved to Europe to join Real Madrid, where he played until 1966.
Playing as a center-back, Santamaría appeared in 16 matches for the Spanish national team.
