Bruno Fernandes turns down a lucrative offer from a Saudi Arabian club

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has revealed why he rejected the lucrative offer from the Saudi Arabian Pro League. Despite numerous rumours about his future, the Portuguese playmaker chose to stay at Old Trafford and continue his professional career there. Goal.com reports.

Fernandes had been one of the prime targets of Middle Eastern clubs. However, the 31-year-old footballer turned down a financially huge sum and chose to remain at the club. He has been performing brilliantly under interim head coach Michael Carrick. The captain has made a major contribution to his team's rise to third place in the league standings, scoring 8 goals and providing 19 assists this season.

Speaking on Wayne Rooney's show on BBC Sport, the midfielder explained that his decision was guided not by a higher salary but by his sporting goals. According to him, family values led him to put professional success and the happiness of his children above wealth.

Fernandes spoke about his conversation with his wife as follows: "I stayed because I felt I still had something to give to the club. The Saudi option and the money... it was a lot. The good thing about my family is that my wife also looks at life realistically, just like me. We don't want to be the richest people in the world. We just want to be people who have achieved their dreams and live happily with our children."

His wife's question, "Have you achieved all your dreams?", was a turning point for the footballer. This conversation helped him realise that his time at the English club was not over. Manchester United now host Brentford on Monday, and a win will all but secure them a Champions League ticket for next season.
