Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi has prioritized his team's Premier League survival battle over last season's Europa League final. The Italian tactician believes the club's honor and historical reputation are at stake in the decisive clash against Everton. This is reported by Goal.com reports .
"Sunday's game is a true final for Tottenham. It is even more important than last year's match against Manchester United. We are playing for something more valuable than a trophy — pride and the dignity of the club. You can win a cup, but preserving pride is the most important thing," said De Zerbi.
The situation for the North London club became more complicated after a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea. Goals from Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos put the 'Spurs' in a difficult position. A consolation goal from Richarlison could not save the team from defeat. Currently, Tottenham is only two points ahead of West Ham in the relegation zone.
Regarding the squad, De Zerbi stated that James Maddison, who is recovering from an injury, is currently only fit to play for 20 minutes. Although referee Stuart Attwell did not award a penalty in a controversial incident between Micky van de Ven and Marc Cucurella during the Chelsea match, the coach urged not to use it as an excuse.
