Argentine chess prodigy Faustino Oro, who recently earned his Grandmaster title, shared his thoughts on the anticipated World Championship clash between Javokhir Sindarov and Gukesh. The young talent noted that the Uzbek Grandmaster is currently displaying much more stable and confident play.
In Oro's view, Gukesh is undoubtedly a very strong player. He holds a special place in world chess due to his high level, deep calculation, and experience in major tournaments. However, the Argentine athlete noted a slight dip in the Indian champion's form recently.
"Right now, it seems to me that Sindarov is playing better. Gukesh is certainly a very strong player, but after winning the World Championship in 2025-2026, his game has declined slightly. He has lost many rating points and is not showing consistent form at the moment," said Oro.
He cited the Grand Swiss tournament as an example. Gukesh's loss in three consecutive games at this event raised questions about his current state. However, Oro also noted that one should not underestimate the Indian player's potential, as Gukesh at his best can pose serious problems for any opponent.
At the same time, Faustino Oro highly praised Javokhir Sindarov's current performance. In his opinion, the Uzbek Grandmaster proved he is fully ready for the World Championship with his result in the Candidates Tournament. Oro highlighted Sindarov's victory with 10 points as a sign of great confidence and strong form.
"Sindarov won the Candidates Tournament with 10 points and is playing very, very well right now," the Argentine Grandmaster added.
Oro also reminded that nothing in chess can be predicted with certainty. He cited Ding Liren's situation in the last championship match as an example. At that time, many did not expect much from Ding because he did not seem to be in good form. Yet, he won the first game against Gukesh and came close to deciding the fate of the entire match in his favor.
This example once again shows the most interesting aspect of chess: there are predictions, ratings, and form, but everything can change at the board. A single strong game can completely shift the psychological momentum.
Nevertheless, based on the current situation, Faustino Oro rates Sindarov's chances highly. He believes the Uzbek Grandmaster is in excellent sporting form and could have a serious advantage in the fight for the title.
"That is why it is impossible to say for sure in advance. But for now, I believe Sindarov will win," said Oro.
