Former Real Madrid head coach Jorge Valdano has come to the defense of team striker Kylian Mbappe, emphasizing that the French player is being unfairly targeted by critics. The Argentine legend believes the environment surrounding the forward has become overly toxic since his move to the Santiago Bernabeu. This is reported by Goal.com .
Kylian Mbappe has been under significant pressure during his adaptation period at Real Madrid, but Valdano noted that the striker's skill is unquestionable. Despite the noise surrounding his performances in Spain, the former coach stated that Mbappe's international achievements are proof that he is an elite-level player.
In an interview with Movistar, Valdano said: "He has won a World Cup and played in another final, scoring a hat-trick in the decisive match. We are not talking about a fraud, but about the best player in the world at the moment." Discussions have intensified as PSG continues to succeed in Champions League matches without him, while the Madrid club has lost stability.
Valdano considers it wrong to place all the blame for team problems on one person. "Blaming the person who is currently the league's top scorer for everything good happening at PSG and everything bad happening at Real Madrid is a real insult," he added.
Previously, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez also defended the French star, calling him the team's "best player." Perez blamed the congested fixture schedule rather than Mbappe for Los Blancos' trophyless season.
