Daniel Cormier Reveals the Secret Behind Khabib and McGregor’s Feud

Former UFC champion and current sports analyst Daniel Cormier discussed the legendary feud between the Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov and Irishman Conor McGregor, revealing why Khabib could never forgive his rival.

According to Cormier, the reason for this uncompromising stance lies in the faith and family values of the Dagestani fighters.

“Americans think differently, while they never back down”

Cormier noted that, having trained alongside Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team for many years, he knows their inner world and mentality very well:

“I know my brothers and the people on Khabib’s team very well. I know how devoted they are to their religion, faith and family. So, if you do what McGregor did—insult their family and religion—there is no turning back.”, Cormier said.

A Comparison with Jon Jones and Cultural Differences

Cormier compared the situation with his tense relationship with his former fierce rival Jon Jones, while highlighting the difference in mentality:

“Khabib cannot treat Conor with the same indifference or composure that I showed toward Jon Jones. Khabib and the other fighters on his team want to break Conor’s neck. The situation may seem similar to what happened between Jones and me, but the difference is that we are Americans. Americans think completely differently about matters like this.”, the former champion added.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor fought in October 2018, with Khabib winning by submission via a choke in the fourth round. The tension between the two fighters and their teams before and after the bout remains one of the biggest rivalries in MMA history.
