The End of Passwords? Google Adopts Passkeys

Google is making passkeys the primary and preferred method of authentication, although passwords will continue to work. This system offers a higher level of security as it uses a combination of email and password to create and utilize a passkey.

By default, Google enables an option that allows users to skip password entry where possible. This is aimed at reducing the risk of passwords being stolen and used for attacks on multiple accounts.

Currently, Google has not provided specific data on the frequency of passkey usage. However, users are actively adopting this functionality on popular platforms like YouTube and Google Maps. Similar technologies are being implemented by other major companies, including Apple, Microsoft, eBay, Uber, and WhatsApp.
