OpenAI data center raises $11.6B in funding

A Texas-based data center designed for OpenAI has secured $11.6 billion in funding through debt and equity, Interfax reports. The project is being led by startup Crusoe and investment firm Blue Owl Capital.

Initially planned with just two buildings, the facility will now expand to eight. It is expected to become OpenAI’s largest data infrastructure project and, according to CEO Sam Altman, the “largest AI training facility in the world.”

Construction began in June 2024 and is set to complete by 2026.

Each building will host up to 50,000 Nvidia Blackwell chips, optimized for training AI models. Oracle will supply the chips and has agreed to lease the data center from Crusoe for 15 years, subleasing server capacity to OpenAI. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
