
Vietnam’s Ministry of Information Technology has ordered telecommunications providers to block access to Telegram by June 2, 2025, according to official documents cited by Reuters.
The decision comes after Telegram reportedly refused to cooperate with authorities in criminal investigations and declined to provide user data upon request.
Vietnamese police claim that around 68% of the country’s 9,600 local Telegram channels and groups are involved in illegal activity, including fraud, drug trafficking, and suspected terrorism.
As of now, neither Telegram nor the Vietnamese government has issued an official statement.
Previously, authorities in Latvia also expressed intentions to block all Russian-language Telegram channels in the country, citing concerns over the widespread use of Russian in eastern regions and information control. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
