According to AP News, the famous Hubble Space Telescope has taken one of the clearest images ever of a high-speed comet that came from another star system. This object — a comet named 3I-Atlas — is the third known interstellar object ever recorded by humanity, as reported by Peopletalk.
Astronomers discovered the comet just last month. It has been confirmed that the comet poses no threat to Earth. Initially, the size of its icy core was estimated to be several dozen kilometers, but observations from the Hubble orbital telescope refined that to approximately 5.6 kilometers.
This interstellar comet is traveling at a speed of 209,000 km/h. It is heading closer to Mars rather than Earth, and it poses no danger to either planet. According to current data, it is located approximately 446 million kilometers from us.
Images taken by Hubble show a drop-shaped dust envelope surrounding the comet and a long dust tail. This indicates the comet’s rapid movement and how it is changing under the effects of light and heat.
