The AI search startup Perplexity has offered Google $34.5 billion in cash to buy the Chrome browser, TechCrunch.com reported. Despite the company’s monthly users not yet reaching 100 million, the offer was made on the eve of the government’s decision on the antitrust case against Google.
Perplexity did not disclose its financial partners for this deal, and the offer amount is much larger than the funds the company has raised so far. The startup previously explored the possibility of buying the Brave browser and launched its own AI browser called Comet.
According to officials, it is still unclear whether this offer is a genuine move or a PR stunt. At the same time, although Perplexity is struggling to attract a core audience, it has created a big buzz in the technology sector.
