Apple will launch the upcoming iPhone 17 Air as an eSIM-only device globally, TechCrunch reported. This marks the first iPhone model with no physical SIM card slot anywhere in the world.

Previously, the eSIM-only approach was limited to iPhones sold in the U.S. Now, Apple is expanding it worldwide to enable slimmer, more durable, and more secure devices.

Apple is working closely with mobile carriers to expand eSIM support. While adoption remains limited in some countries, the global launch of an eSIM-only iPhone may accelerate wider adoption across all regions.
