Microsoft and OpenAI have signed a new agreement. This deal allows OpenAI to transform into a for-profit (aimed at generating revenue) company. This step takes one of the largest partnerships in the field of artificial intelligence to a new stage.
The full details of the new terms have not been disclosed, but both sides continue to work on the final agreement. In recent years, OpenAI has generated significant revenue and aims to expand internationally.
Microsoft invested $1 billion in OpenAI in 2019 and $10 billion in 2023. Previously, Microsoft distributed OpenAI products only through Azure, but now the company has also started cooperating with Oracle and Google.
The changes in OpenAI’s structure must be approved by U.S. authorities. If the process is not completed by the end of the year, the company may lose a large amount of funding. At the same time, Microsoft is also focusing on developing its own artificial intelligence projects independently.
