According to Bloomberg, OpenAI has added parental control capabilities to its ChatGPT platform. Thanks to the new features, parents will be able to limit certain services for their children, as well as receive timely notifications if signs of stress appear in their children's mental state.
The new system will be activated by sending an electronic invitation. Parents can use it to restrict access to voice chat mode, image creation service, or previous conversations. Notifications will also be sent via SMS, email, or a special application. Most importantly, the child's personal correspondence is not communicated to the parents.
This decision was made after a lawsuit filed against OpenAI by the family of the teenager who committed suicide this spring. During the trial, the company was criticized for not detecting dangerous signs in the messages written by the teenager.
In addition, OpenAI is developing an age determination system for users. It is expected that this will contribute to the more effective use of parental supervision opportunities and the strengthening of children's safety in the future.
