China has made another tremendous breakthrough in renewable energy. The largest floating wind turbine in the world has been assembled and ready for testing in the country.
This turbine is located in the Guangxi-Zhuang Autonomous Region, within the city of Beihai. Its capacity is 16 megawatts, and the wing area is equal to 7 football fields. The turbine is tested in water at a depth of 50 meters and then connected to the power grid.
The turbine generates 44.7 million kilowatt-hours of energy per year. This amount will be enough to provide energy to about 4 thousand households. All parts, including the gearbox and ballast system, are manufactured in China, reflecting the country's pursuit of technological independence.
