Pavel Durov: "We must not lose the free internet"

Telegram founder Pavel Durov published an appeal dedicated to internet freedom on his birthday. He emphasized that the internet, once a symbol of information exchange and freedom of thought, is now increasingly becoming a tool of control.

"We have very little time left to preserve the free internet created by our fathers," Durov said in his statement.

According to him, countries that were previously examples of freedom, such as Germany, Great Britain, and France, are now implementing "anti-utopian measures." At the same time, he did not express any opinion about Russia.

"There is a risk that our generation will go down in history as the last generation that had their own freedoms, but failed to preserve them. That's why I don't want to celebrate today. My time is running out. "Our time is running out," he said.

For reference, Pavel Durov is currently under investigation in France. The French authorities accuse him of failing to respond to official requests and of participating in the spread of hacker programs.
