In Russia, some users are experiencing difficulties registering on Telegram and WhatsApp messengers. A number of media outlets report that new users are unable to receive SMS codes or confirmation calls required for registration via Russian SIM cards.
According to RBK, this information was confirmed - according to a source in the field of information security, the restriction was introduced at the state level.
At the same time, the Telegram channel "Kod Durova" conducted a test to investigate this situation. As a result, it turned out that the verification code reached the "Megafon" and MTS networks, but did not reach the "Beeline" subscribers. "Beeline" refused to provide an official explanation for this situation.
It is not yet clear how long the restriction will last and why. However, experts emphasize that this situation could be another step towards further control over information exchange in Russia.
