In Arc Raiders, a player nicknamed dreamthorp shouted “help!” so loudly in voice chat during a raid that a neighbor thought it was a real emergency and tried to break the door down. The player says he was badly startled when the door got warped and looked as if there had been an explosion. This was reported by playground.rureports.
Because the video cut out at the moment of impact, some people were skeptical: some called it fake, while others suggested it could be edited or staged. Dreamthorp later showed a photo of the door, but that still didn’t convince everyone.
Later he wrote that he treated his neighbor to a beer to smooth things over. It turned out the neighbor was a firefighter and explained that in situations like this he’s used to reacting quickly “on autopilot.”
Interestingly, noisy incidents around Arc Raiders aren’t new: in another case, police even showed up at a player’s place because of the noise. To avoid awkward situations, some gamers, like iwaspaso, say they switch to another language so neighbors stay calm.
The takeaway is simple: if you get emotional and shout loudly in Arc Raiders voice chat, make sure your virtual raid doesn’t turn into a real-life “emergency call.”
