The Google Play Store has launched a new feature to identify apps that drain smartphone battery quickly. Starting March 1, 2026, the company began highlighting such apps with special labels. This process will be implemented gradually over several weeks. Reports rozetked.me.
Now, when users visit the page of problematic apps, they will see a warning that the app is showing high activity in the background and consuming more battery than expected. The system works based on Android Vitals metrics and automatically detects apps that wake up the device excessively.
This update is not limited to warnings alone. Apps that consume excessive battery will be removed from Google Play recommendations and other promotional sections. However, exceptions exist for music players, navigation, or background processes specifically authorized by the user. These measures aim to extend smartphone battery life and improve user experience.
