Microsoft plans native apps for Windows

Microsoft says it wants to build fully native applications for Windows 11 and is creating a new team to lead that effort. The company has not yet explained which products will be rebuilt or launched first, but officials say at least some future apps will avoid web-based components. Reports Habr.com.

The plan was highlighted by Microsoft representative Rudy Huyn, who said new software for Windows 11 would be 100% native. In practice, that would mean applications built entirely on Windows technologies such as WinUI instead of relying partly on WebView, which loads interface elements through web components.

The announcement comes as Microsoft also prepares broader improvements for Windows 11. Earlier, the company unveiled a major update aimed at fixing performance issues, speeding up the context menu, reducing File Explorer load times, moving the Start menu to WinUI, and adding the option to move the taskbar.

The shift could mark a broader change in Microsoft’s software strategy. Many current Windows 11 apps, including Clipchamp, are still web-based, and even flagship products like Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot depend heavily on web technologies. It remains unclear whether Microsoft will now modernize existing apps or focus only on new native releases.
