Apple introduces a new type of cheaper subscription

Apple has introduced a new way for App Store developers to attract subscribers. Users will now be able to pay a discounted monthly rate for auto-renewable subscriptions by committing to a 12-month period. Techcrunch.com reports on this.

This model allows developers to offer discounted rates to customers in exchange for long-term and stable revenue. Many developers previously displayed lower monthly prices to show the benefits of annual subscriptions, and now Apple has formalized this process.

The new system operates under specific rules to avoid confusing users. Customers can receive full information regarding the payment structure and cancellation procedures before agreeing to the subscription.

Under the 12-month plan, the subscription can be stopped at any time; however, monthly payments will be deducted until the end of the term.

Currently, this feature is not available in the US and Singapore. It is speculated that this is due to litigation with Epic Games in the US and complex consumer protection rules in Singapore.

The new subscription types will launch globally on iOS 26.4 and other updated system versions. The feature is expected to be fully implemented in the iOS 26.5 version scheduled for release in May.
