China suspends robotaxi licensing following failure

The Chinese government has suspended the issuance of new licenses for robotaxis following a malfunction in the operation of autonomous vehicles owned by Baidu. Ixbt.com reports this.
Last month, dozens of Apollo Go robotaxis suddenly came to a halt in the city of Wuhan. As a result, passengers were left in a difficult situation and traffic flow was disrupted.
This incident raised concerns among officials. A special meeting was held involving representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other agencies.
Regulators called on local authorities to strengthen safety oversight and prevent similar incidents from occurring.
The suspension of new licenses prevents companies from expanding their fleets and launching projects in new cities. It is currently unknown how long the restriction will last.
