Investor attention is gradually shifting toward projects that could develop around orbital data centers. Although such systems remain a prospect for the future, interest in them is growing. This was reported by Ixbt.com xabar.

Delyan Asparouhov, a partner at the venture capital firm Founders Fund, stated at an event in Washington that he would not compete directly with SpaceX. Instead, he highlighted business opportunities for infrastructure designed for artificial intelligence computing tasks on Earth.

Asparouhov, who is a co-founder of Varda Space Industries, noted that he had previously been skeptical of the idea of orbital centers. However, he added that the decline in launch costs and technological advancements over the next decade will make this model more realistic.

Political pressure and public opposition to terrestrial data centers in the U.S. are also becoming contributing factors. This situation could lead to restrictions on their construction.

Among the largest initiatives is SpaceX's plan to deploy up to one million orbital centers. Initially, they will serve the internal computing needs of xAI and Tesla.

Meanwhile, the startup Starcloud is awaiting approval to create 88,000 such facilities for external clients.

For now, Founders Fund has not made significant investments in such projects. However, if orbital centers create demand for new infrastructure, investments are not ruled out.
