Google has introduced a new AI-powered voice dictation feature called Rambler to its Gboard keyboard for Android. This innovation is expected to pose serious competition for voice-to-text apps like Wispr Flow and Typeless, which have yet to establish a firm foothold on Android. The Rambler feature automatically removes filler words from speech and correctly understands mid-sentence corrections. Based on Gemini models, this technology allows for seamless code-switching between different languages. This enables users to use multiple languages within a single sentence and communicate without losing context.
Regarding privacy, Google representatives emphasized that voice recordings are not stored and that data is processed both on-device and via cloud technologies. The company considers this feature secure and private, which is a significant factor for users relying on third-party applications.
Initially, the Rambler feature will be available only for Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones, with a rollout to other Android devices to follow. As Gboard is the primary keyboard for millions of Android users worldwide, Google aims to further solidify its market dominance with this technology.
