Why Xiaomi abandoned the production of an ultra-thin smartphone

Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing explained why the company did not bring an iPhone Air-style ultra-thin smartphone to market. According to the senior executive, Xiaomi worked seriously on this project and even brought it to the mass production stage, but ultimately decided to cancel it. This was reported by Ixbt.com reports .

The main reason for the rejection was significant compromises in technical capabilities. Lu Weibing noted that it was impossible to maintain the smartphone's battery life and performance in such a thin and compact body. As a result, it became clear that the device did not meet Xiaomi's high standards.

The company head also clarified why the new model is named Xiaomi 17 Max instead of "Plus". According to him, the "Plus" label usually implies an increase in screen size. "Max" represents not just a large display, but significant upgrades in several areas such as camera, performance, and battery capacity.

The Xiaomi 17 Max smartphone is expected to be unveiled this month. Insiders report that the device will be equipped with a 200-megapixel Leica camera, a Snapdragon Elite 8 Gen 5 processor, and an 8000 mAh battery.
