Mach Industries makes $50 million acquisition in defense technology

Three-year-old Mach Industries has acquired solid-fuel rocket engine manufacturer Exquadrum for $50 million in cash and stock. Now rebranded as Mach Energetics, the entity has been fully integrated into Mach, allowing the company direct control over one of the most critical and scarce components for modern unmanned systems. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .

Company founder and CEO Ethan Thornton stated that vertical integration is a necessary step for the defense industry. In a market currently dominated by major players like Aerojet Rocketdyne and Northrop Grumman, supply chain disruptions for solid-fuel rocket engines have become a serious issue. Mach Industries aims to produce these components not only for its own projects but for the entire defense ecosystem.

As part of the deal, Exquadrum's 85 employees, its intellectual property, and a 70,000-square-foot testing facility in California have moved to Mach. Consequently, the combined company's headcount has reached 350. Exquadrum founders Kevin Mahaffy and Eric Schmidt have taken leadership roles within Mach Energetics.

Mach Industries is currently working on five different aerial vehicle programs: Viper, Glide, Stratos, Dart, and Pike. At least three of these are planned to enter production this year. Valued at $470 million, the company aims to optimize product costs and accelerate production rates through this acquisition.
