Bluesky competes with X regarding long-form content

While the X platform, led by Elon Musk, restricts long-form articles to paid subscribers and business accounts, the decentralized social network Bluesky is taking a different approach. A new version of the Bluesky app was released on Thursday. It is integrated with the Standard.site project, allowing users to read long articles and blog posts based on the AT Protocol. This was reported by Techcrunch.com reports .

Now, Bluesky users are no longer limited to short posts; they can also follow newsletters and articles from a broad network called "Atmosphere." This system includes sites designed for independent authors, such as Leaflet, pckt, and Offprint. In the initial phase, these articles appear as dynamic link cards, but Bluesky promises to expand this functionality in the future.

This update is part of Bluesky's strategy to create an open ecosystem. In February, a private messaging service was launched through integration with the Germ startup. Now, with over 44.5 million registered users, Bluesky offers a vast audience for third-party applications. This represents a significant opportunity for developers working on the AT Protocol.

Recently, WordPress also enabled any site to publish articles on the Bluesky network via its dedicated plugin. This means your blog becomes open data within the AT Protocol, rather than just a link. Unlike the X platform, Bluesky supports the free movement of data and easy migration of users between different servers (PDS).
