New solution against social media addiction: MeBeMe app launched

In the modern world, the problem of being glued to a smartphone screen and scrolling through useless content for hours, known as "doomscrolling," is becoming increasingly relevant. To combat this global trend, a new mobile app called MeBeMe has been launched. It does not simply restrict the user from social media, but helps with personal development by redirecting their attention to productive activities. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports.

The main difference of the MeBeMe app is that, unlike many other "blocking" programs, it does not impose bans. Instead, it acts as an "interrupter." The app sends the user small tasks or "missions" that match the personality type they have chosen. International technology publications are reporting on this.

Over 75 directions for personal development

To start using the app, the user must choose the personality type they aspire to. The program has over 75 different directions, which are divided into several main categories:

  • Mind and knowledge: roles such as mathematician, scientist, historian, or chess player;
  • Health: athlete, dancer, cyclist, or runner;
  • Home and relationships: directions related to cooking, gardening, and family relationships.
For example, if a user chooses the "thirsty for knowledge" personality, the app might suggest watching an educational video for seven minutes. For fans of classical literature, tasks such as joining a local book club or listening to a lecture are sent. This approach serves to return a person from the virtual world to useful habits in real life.

Privacy and ease of use

According to the app's creator, Eric Wolfram, the project was initially developed as a personal assistant for his son, but later its effectiveness proved useful for everyone. Wolfram emphasizes that the regular repetition of small actions shapes a person's character, and this is a lifelong process.

In the MeBeMe app, special attention is paid to the issue of privacy. Users are not required to register or open an account. All data is stored only on the device itself and is not transmitted to third-party servers. Also, users can control the frequency of notifications themselves.

Currently, the MeBeMe app is available for free for iOS platform users. There are no ads or paid subscriptions in the program. The creators plan to release an Android version of the app in the near future. For users in Uzbekistan, this tool can also be a useful assistant in effectively managing time on social networks.
