Corrosion detected on Gateway and Axiom Space stations

Corrosion has been detected in the main modules of the Gateway and Axiom Space stations, which are under construction for lunar orbit. Signs of corrosion were found in the HALO module developed by Northrop Grumman and the I-Hab module from the European Space Agency. NASA representative Jared Isaacman indicated that these issues could delay project timelines and significantly increase costs. Despite the problems, experts believe that the defects can be resolved without posing critical risks to the mission, and the launch of the first module of the Axiom Space station remains scheduled for 2028.
Serious technical issues have emerged in the primary modules of the Gateway station, planned for lunar orbit, and the Axiom Space commercial station. Signs of corrosion were discovered in the HALO module, being developed by Northrop Grumman, and the European Space Agency's I-Hab module. Ixbt.com reports on this.
During hearings in the US Congress, NASA representative Jared Isaacman stated that these defects could delay project implementation timelines and significantly increase costs. Currently, Northrop Grumman is conducting repair work in coordination with NASA.
The issues were observed in the pressurized compartments supplied by Thales Alenia Space. European Space Agency specialists have formed a special task force to investigate the causes of the corrosion; according to preliminary findings, the defects are related to the manufacturing process and material properties.
Nevertheless, experts emphasize that these malfunctions can be rectified and do not pose a critical risk to the mission. The plan to launch the first module of the Axiom Space station remains unchanged, scheduled for 2028.
