Uzbekistan has begun officially legalizing unauthorized land seizures, Kursiv.media reported. The process is managed by the State Cadastre Agency.
The legalization program started in November 2024 and will run until early 2028. Under a law passed in August 2024, citizens can register ownership rights for land and structures built on them, even if they were occupied without permission.
The maximum area eligible for legalization and registration fees vary based on location and time of seizure:
Before July 1, 1998 — up to 0.24 hectares;
From 1998 to 2018 — up to 0.12 hectares;
In Tashkent, Nukus, and regional centers — up to 0.06 hectares.
Registration costs range from 1 to 5 BRV (375,000 to 1.9 million UZS).
Decisions on legalization will be made by regional people's councils, following document verification by local justice departments.
