
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev delivered a speech at the first “Central Asia — European Union” summit, focusing on regional security and cooperation with Afghanistan, president.uz reported.
He noted the growing importance of cooperation in addressing common threats such as terrorism, extremism, radicalism, cybercrime, drug trafficking, and illegal migration.
The President expressed support for the EU’s initiative to begin dialogue on counter-terrorism issues.
He also highlighted the need to expand practical cooperation under the BOMCA and CADAP programs.
On the topic of Afghanistan, Mirziyoyev stated Uzbekistan’s readiness to continue political consultations to support peaceful development in the country.
“The global community is not fully assessing the threats originating from Afghan territory. We believe it is essential to involve Afghanistan more actively in regional economic processes, infrastructure projects, and social recovery,” he said.
He urged the international community to establish constructive dialogue with the current Afghan authorities.
In conclusion, Mirziyoyev proposed the establishment of a Partnership Committee to hold annual meetings at the deputy prime minister level within the “Central Asia – EU” format.
