On June 9, 2025, an important step was taken in the legal system of our country - significant amendments and additions were made to a number of legislative acts. The newly adopted law is aimed at further guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of citizens, in particular, the norms related to criminal procedure and judicial bodies were formulated in a new spirit.
First of all, an important change was made to the Criminal Procedure Code - now a suspect, accused or defendant can freely exercise the right to remain silent at any stage. This serves to ensure his right to defense in practice.
Another important point: a person's admission of guilt is no longer considered a sufficient basis for finding him guilty, even if it is based on only one piece of evidence. This norm stipulates that accusers must act on the basis of reliable and several independent pieces of evidence.
In addition, there are fundamental innovations in the Law "On Courts". Now judges can only be removed from office, suspended from office, or transferred to another position in cases and in accordance with the procedure clearly specified in the law. Judges are also not held accountable for certain cases.
These changes will further strengthen public confidence in the independence of judges and fair trial. Thus, the judiciary is now free from external influences and approaches any case solely on the basis of the law.
This law entered into force on the date of its official publication and has begun to show its effect in practice. We hope that these innovations will become another important stage in ensuring human rights, justice, and the rule of law in our country. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
