Wholesale melon prices in Uzbekistan dropped threefold in just one week, reported UPL.uz.
In the first week of July 2025, wholesale melon prices in Uzbekistan fell from 6,000 UZS ($0.47) to 2,000 UZS ($0.16) per kilogram. According to EastFruit, this was driven by the mass harvest in the Mirzachul region and the early season start in Kazakhstan at low prices.
Fresh Melon LLC head Farhod Korabekov highlighted factors behind early price stability:
. Planting areas for early and mid-season melons decreased by 30%.
. Spring weather anomalies reduced yield quality in some regions.
. Limited supply allowed prices to remain high through June.
By late June, mass harvesting in both Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan flooded the market. Kazakh exporters offered melons 15–25% cheaper (FCA terms). As an EAEU member, Kazakhstan also benefits from duty-free exports to Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
Reduced exports led to oversupply in Uzbekistan, causing the sharp price drop.
Despite this, quality melon remains in short supply, which could help stabilize prices soon. Future price trends will depend on harvest volume and export demand.
Uzbekistan exports up to 150,000 tons of melons annually to over 20 countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan, and Europe. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
