A unique project has been launched in the capital with the aim of making people’s lives easier and ensuring their daily movement is safer. According to the press service of the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, guide dogs for blind people and assistance dogs for lonely persons with disabilities have begun to be trained on an experimental basis.
Currently, training is being carried out at special training grounds. The dogs are first taught in special arenas, and later practical sessions are conducted on city streets. Guide dogs help blind people move safely through the streets, overcome various obstacles, and reach their destinations.
In addition, assistance dogs are intended to support lonely individuals with disabilities in performing everyday household tasks. For example, they are trained to walk along a pre-planned route, bring necessary medicines or food, and even make purchases using a special bag with a list. The pharmacist or seller places the order in the bag, after which the dog follows the command to return home.
At the initial stage of training, special instructors accompany the dogs along the route. This makes it easier for them to memorize the path and learn how to respond correctly in simple situations. The full training course lasts from eight to ten months. During this time, the dogs must memorize the names of required places, learn to go there and back, and guide their owners safely.
Since this initiative is being implemented for the first time in our country, special explanatory work will be carried out among the public so that four-legged helpers are properly accepted. Specialists emphasize that guide dogs can become not only the eyes, hands, or feet of a person but also his loyal friend in life.
